The Psaraki Pencil is finally available. In the history of lures manufacturing, there are pivotal moments, that might change the course of the industry. The Psaraki lure series has set to create a milestone: before there was never a Greek lure for Light Rock Fishing that was designed, tested in Greece and mass-produced on European soil. And there has never been a Greek Light Game lure in the market, which has achieved record sales and has caught more catches, throughout the country. Trophy fish for LRF fishing, such as Seabass over 5kg, Dentex over 2kg and countless White Seabreams, Saddled Seabreams and Gilt Heads have lost battles against the Psaraki. From the workshop of George Tyrikos, the Greek company Nerd Fishing and from retailer Tsouros Marine, the life cycle of the Psaraki series is now completed with the “birth” of the Psaraki Pencil.
The Pencil comes to complement the Minnow version in action and fishing strategy. It is essentially a completely different lure, for completely different presentations. The Psaraki Pencil imitates small lures, which do not reproduce the classic Wobbling and Rolling action of a Minnow. More persistent on the horizontal axis, but with realistic movement, that resembles fish offspring like no other. Observe small fish: many times and especially when they feel threatened, they move quickly in the water without strong movements of their body, tail, or fins. When predators require realism to strike, especially during the summer months, small fish become the main target. Pencils like the Psaraki become especially valuable.
Let’s first look at the basic action of the Psaraki Pencil. With a gentle, slow to moderate retrieve, the Psaraki makes for a sweet swim, with a relatively motionless head, very light rolling and plenty of wobbling. Overall it creates an ‘S’ trajectory that no Minnow can match, this being one of the most desirable actions in LRF. This peculiarity completely distinguishes it from the Psaraki Minnow. But this lure will also react to Twitches. In this retrieve, it rushes towards random directions, but always with an upheld principle: it remains in a horizontal posture and does not radically react to changes in its retrieve. This pairs beautifully with one of its most awesome features. The horizontal immersion, with very intense Vibration Fall. Use the Psaraki Pencil with Twitches, with soft, long retrieves, give it some life and then pause and let it sink for a while. Notice how it vibrates as it stops and how beautifully it sinks. Many fish have been fooled this way.
The Psaraki Pencil aims to anglers in need of a lure that the more you explore its potential and the more experience you gain in it use, the more it has to give you. The absence of a lip, as in all Pencil lures, makes its retrieve more demanding, but at the same time, gives it incredible freedom and releases a variety of actions. The Psaraki Pencil, having all the specifications of the Minnow, can be used very easily, and as you get used to it, can help you avoid almost all tangles in the shallows. It is a lure that has been literally designed to move flawlessly, even in the shallows. At the same time it can “search” from bottom to mid-water, in very smart ways, always maintaining its horizontal posture and sinking with vibrations.
Having the experience of the color variations that performed will on the Psaraki Minnow, we kept some color options the same and enhanced others. In the foil we chose a different texture, which remains holographic, but also adds a textured surface, like an illusion of scale. We emphasized the color pattern on the little Salema, sharpened the contrast of white and black on the Zebra, added a reaction color of Light Green with Red belly, while improving the finish and definition on wildly successful colors like the Pandora and the holographic Spicara. And finally we made a completely natural, semi-transparent Picarel, which is a true work of art.
The treble hooks and the rings that have been used to rig the Psaraki Pencil, are being developed by Nerd Fishing company, and have already proven their worth, as they are the same ones to be used on the Minnow. Up to date they have hooked oversized fish for the LRF style and have come out of the battle in one piece.
